2018 Annual Award Winners

October 15, 2018

We are proud to announce our winners for this year's Annual Award Banquet.

Business of the Year: Brookville Building & Savings (BBSA)

Brookville Building & Savings has been in business for 115 years! This company stands out for this award because of their continual dedication to serve individuals, businesses and organizations in the community. As one of the oldest businesses in the area, this institution has not only been successful as a business, but BBSA has been a tremendous supporter of the community as well.

Picnic Partner of the Year: Angler’s Bait & Tackle Shop (Angler’s)

We chose Angler’s for this award because of their dedication and partnership with us for the fishing derby at the Brookville Community Picnic. They took steps above and beyond for this event that allowed each child to enjoy his/her fishing derby experience. Angler’s staff was helpful and offered encouragement that we are certain made the children feel better about their fishing endeavors. The support of businesses like Angler’s are what help to make our Community Picnic better with every year.

Citizen of the Year: Kathy Dafler

Kathy Dafler is the school nurse at Brookville Elementary, but that is just a minuscule part of her service to the community. She was chosen for this award because of her dedication to the students, but we also see a passion that Kathy has for her job that extends far beyond the nurse's office at Brookville Elementary Schools. We are certain the hours that she has put in for the students and families are immeasurable. Kathy is more than "just" a school nurse, she is a citizen that has eyes to see needs within the community, a warm heart to understand those around her, and the kind hands to take care of people in her care.

Public Figure of the Year: Dave Monnin

Dave stands out for this award because for over 35 years, he has selflessly given his time to help better the quality of life for residents of our community through service on the Brookville Park Board of Trustees. We cannot imagine the amount of time given, not just in attending meetings, but in visiting and working in the parks over these years. Dave has had a huge part in making the park system the tremendous value and asset they are today.

Picnic Service Award: Dan & Shelly Music

Dan & Shelly were chosen for this award because of their continual dedication to the park. They have a passion that shows in everything they do, not only for the Community Picnic, but for every event held at the park. Their hard work and constant vigilance to park needs, amount to an immeasurable service to Golden Gate Park and the Brookville community that depends on the park year-round.

To all our recipients we say thank you for all that you do.
