On May 9th, the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce held a workshop to teach the very basics of Canva, a web based graphics tool, to Chamber members. Angie Dull lead the class and taught attendees how to create simple graphics to share on social media. This tool can be used online at canva.com or there is an app available in itunes and Google Play. While there is a paid version for approximately $10 per month, there are lots of options to use this tool for free.
The first graphic we created in the workshop was completed in under 10 minutes. The main parts of the graphic were on a template, we changed the background to royal blue, edited the text, then adjusted the color of the flowers to match better with Brookville Blue.
We spent a little more time on the 2nd graphic making it completely from scratch and making some edits and adjustments along the way. We first inserted a red background with watermelon slices and changed the color to blue. Then we chose from a text template, centered it on the graphic and changed the words to match our "special." After the font was adjusted to our liking, the graphic was ready for downloading and sharing.
Finally, we learned to create a graphic from the Canva app on our smart phones or tablets. Below is a graphic I created from my smart phone. We used a template, adjusted the color to match our Brookville blue, edited the words accordingly and saved the image so we could share.
I strongly encourage to give Canva a try. It is a great way to get more views and shares on your social media pages. The options for free graphics make it a great tool for NOPs and small businesses on a tight budget. There are many great additional features for those that prefer the pro version.
